The village of Werfen, hometown of Josef Struber (1773-1845), legendary leader of the freedom fighters of the Pongau in åthe year 1809, has played a crucial and strategically important role in the wars of conquest of Pass Lueg. In the course of the ongoing Austrian-French wars in the years 1797, 1800, 1805 and 1809 Werfen has suffered dramatic damages and devastation through the invasion of the French troops led by Napoleon. This special exhibition is dedicated to display the fateful struggles between men and nature, rock and foe, at the impassable mountain pass - Pass Lueg. Amongst others it focuses on poignant twists of fate of individuals, it depicts medical deficits and remembers Anna Feuchtinger and her lion-hearted devotion to the home country as shown in the images of women fighting for freedom, the “60 Weibsbilder”. Museum “Art of the Lost Generation” [Museum Kunst der verlorenen Generation]

The “forgotten” artists Under the title Zur falschen Zeit am falschen Ort [in the wrong place at the wrong time], the private museum Kunst der Verlorenen Generation [art of the lost generation] presents works by a rediscovered generation of painters. The works in this museum were all created by artists who were born between 1880 and 1910.  They came from various corners of the Weimar Republic as well as the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, and had previously participated in exhibitions both at home and abroad. Many studied under teachers such as Henri Matisse, Paul Klee and Oskar Kokoschka. The National Socialists prevented them from continuing their art and their career. Some were killed, some fled, others would paint again later. However, the majority of these “degenerate” artists were simply forgotten. Private Collection of Dr. H. R. Böhme The man behind the museum is former ...

    Museum Bramberg "Wilhelmgut"

Welcome to the Museum Bramberg Whilst the underground part of the Museum is dedicated to the National Park Exhibition “Emeralds and Crystals” (unique presentation of the treasures from the Hohe Tauern), the rest of the house devotes itself to teaching visitors about the fascinating life of our ancestors via the folk culture exhibition and the history of the “Wilhelmgut” house itself. Through a rich variety of displays and exhibits, we reveal the history of craftsmanship, customs, arts and life in bygone days. There are also displays of animal and plant life in the Pinzgau. Upstairs in the attic, you get an insight into the world of bees and the work of the beekeeper. The open air display, which features construction as it was in former times, draws our attention to the creativity of our ancestors. There you will find: an old brick oven, in which we bake traditional ...

    Museum Castle Lerchen

As a peaceful fixture amidst the busy old town, Schloss Lerchen was documented as early as 1289. The castle has been home to the city’s museum of local history since 1985. The visitor gets an idea of where our region’s charm and character stems from by experiencing a survey of the city’s history, the peasant wars, the emergence of the farming-citizenry, and sacred art. Several historically recreated workshops display tools and artisanry. Further emphasis is put on the geological conditions of the surroundings as well as on Radstadt’s famous composer and organist Paul Hofhaimer. Above all, Radstadt is especially proud of its civil-guard and other cultural associations - traditions that live to this day. Opening hours: June to September: every Wednesday to Friday from 10.00 am to 12.00 am and from 14.30 pm to 05.00 pm
