The voyage of discovery can begin.

From the middle of April, you will find an overview of the situation of all participating 2021 SL Card attractions here. You can currently also still find the overview map from 2020 (which will differ in a few attractions from the current season). From the end of April 2021, you can take a look at the new brochure for the 2021/22 seasons, which shows all the detailed information about the excursion destinations.

 

TIP: Either benefit from a 24-hour Salzburg Card OR enjoy a free trip on the Grossglockner High Alpine Road!  The choice is yours!

    Over the roofs of the townThe Italian artist Mario Merz chose the Mönchsberg mountain as the site for his work. Configured like an igloo, it stands partly concealed by trees close to the look-out point over the city. Magical number foliageThe work consists of twelve stainless steel tubes, seven metres in height, bearing twenty-one neon numerals that gleam over Salzburg by night. The walk-in igloo constitutes a perfect symbiosis of aesthetic and natural creation. The title "Numbers in the Wood" refers to a numerical series developed by the mathematician Fibonacci, who discovered it to represent the rate of propagation of physical forces. Mario Merz regards the numerals that seem to sprout from the steel arches as evoking the growth of "leaves", in the sense of an eternal process of evolution.

It is a walk-in art space in the shape of an elliptical cylinder open to the sky at the top. This visible excerpt of the sky with the changing colours of light becomes an integral part of the work. A space that makes nature into art"Sky- Space" is especially compelling at dusk and dawn. The natural light becomes part of the architecture and has the visual effects of a trompe l'oeil. By means of changes of the colour of the artificial light, these effects are even intensified. Turell's installation is a place that models light like a sculpture. It confronts the viewer with a powerful visual interplay between nature, architecture and technology.

The one and the otherThe sculpture "Sphaera" on Kapitelplatz is about nine metres high. It represents a male figure on a golden sphere with a neutral expression. This man might be 'everyman'. The same neutrality is reflected in Balkenhol's 140 cm-tall female counterpart, "Woman in the Rock". Neither figure tells us its story. They appear to reflect everyday reality, and yet remain emotionless and anonymous. Balkenhol's art invokes a great range of interpretation. His sculptures move along the very thin line of recognition and doubt, proximity and distance.
