E-Bike Highlights

In SalzburgerLand, there are almost no limits with an E-bike and you can really let off steam here as you desire. Some regions have specialised on this in recent years and without exaggeration they can be really called ‘E-bike regions’. Which ones are there, what you can experience there and what is to be understood with the ‘Slow Bike Tour’ can be found here.

Hochkönig: the E-Bike Eldorado

You can call the Hochkönig region, without exaggeration, a pioneer in ‘E-Mountain Biking’. It is the world’s first region which has an E-Bike charging network, which is extensively developed both down in the valleys and up on the mountains. Of course, all current E-bike charging systems are supported. On the specially designated E-Mountain Bike Trails, 27 in total, you need not worry anymore about the battery level. The ii-Tour leads E-Bikers 113km through Maria Alm, Dienten and Mühlbach, as well as to mountain huts and wonderful experiences and viewing points.

E-Biking in Salzburg’s Saalach Valley

E-Mobility on the bike is a key focus in Salzburg’s Saalach Valley. Whether you arrive with your own bike, or rely on one of the nearly 100 rental bikes – an active holiday here is always something very special. At 24 bike-energy charging stations, you can re-charge the E-Bike easily and safely. For example, while visiting one of the fine restaurants or just enjoying the magnificent nature.

Tennengau: on Hirscher’s tracks

The Loseggalm is a highlight in Tennengau with its picture-book panorama, hut romance and celebrity connections. Wherever one turns in Annaberg, skiing star Marcel Hirscher is always right there with you. For example, with the cable car which carries his picture or the ski school at the Donnerkogel cable car, now the central starting point of all local MTB routes and offers high quality E-Bikes for rent, which is decorated with a life-size Hirscher doorman.

The Tennengau has many more E-bike routes on offer, in addition to this fantastic E-bike tour up to the Loseggalm with its gigantic ploughman’s lunch and cheese from its own Alpine dairy. There are charging stations next to the E-bike rentals, also in Hallein at the E-Station Tennengauhaus and at the Salt Mines on the Dürrnberg.

Try-out days in Wagrain-Kleinarl

It sounds so seductive: “Biking with a tail wind”, “Up the mountain without sweating”. “Speed at the touch of a button”. But what if your last bike tour is more than a few years ago and a modern E-bike is like a book with seven locks? How do you react when the gravel gets deeper and the slope gets steeper? And where, oh where, is the charging station?

In the Wagrain-Kleinarl region, such questions do not arise if the ‘Pedelec’ newcomers take up an allround carefree package. Twice a week, guided E-bike tours are offered with guide, rental bike and helmet. Once you have gotten to know the equipment and basic techniques, it is time to head out into the beautiful natural landscape of the Salzburg Sports World. The tour destinations are fixed – some beautiful mountain lakes or cosy Alpine pastures. Depending on the condition and skills of the participants, the way back home can be varied or extended.

These try-out morning sessions are held by the Bike World Wagrain, with the meeting point at their shop near the bike park and registrations being accepted up to the evening before!

Wildkogel Arena

The mix is what makes it! In the Wildkogel Arena, the cable car and train also support the mobility of the bikers for free!

One small card opens up a big world for E-Bikers around Neukirchen and Bramberg. The National Park Summer Card MOBIL guarantees maximum mobility in addition to dozens of free admissions and discounts. Daily rides with the Pinzgauer Local Train from Krimml to Zell am See are also possible as well as the free use of the Wildkogel cable car and the Smaragd cable car. Renting E-Bikes with this all-inclusive card is also especially cheap.

The National Park Summer Card MOBIL is valid from 1.5 to 31.10.2018 and is included in the overnight stay price at over 130 participating hosts of the Wildkogel Arena.

Zell am See-Kaprun: Multifaceted

Freeriding below the glacier or cruising around the lake – Zell am See-Kaprun offers extremely diverse E-Bike options. Where do you find somewhere to re-charge the battery at 2,450 metres above sea level? In Zell am See-Kaprun! There E-bikes can be charged for free on the new charging stations at the Gletschermühle Restaurant in the Alpine Centre at the Kitzsteinhorn Mountain. This makes the three Freeride trails, which end at the Alpine Centre, also more accessible. Especially the technically somewhat simpler Bachler Trail, which starts just behind an opposing climb, can now be tried out several times with the energy saved.

It gets a bit racier in the E-Motocross Park near the mountain station of the areitXpress & cityXpress in Zell am See. But this region would not be an E-Biker’s hotspot were it not for the numerous additional touring options. On leisurely laps around Lake Zell, relaxation and satisfaction come out of nowhere. And those routes leading uphill, such as those on the Mitterberghof, the Schoberalm or the Enzian hut lose their terror factor and end up delivering true culinary delights with natural enjoyment…

Saalbach Hinterglemm: Boost your limits!

More trails, more experiences, more pleasure. Saalbach Hinterglemm offers just that for E-Bikers by means of comprehensive services and generous infrastructure. With its seemingly endless and sometimes specially built routes, the “Home of Lässig” (Home of Casual) in the Pinzgauer Grasbergen rules the flow.  Trail enthusiasts, Enduro riders and Downhillers feel particularly in good hands here.

But some Panorama trails are rather exhausting and those who already need all their concentration for the downhill metres are probably grateful for support on the remaining ascents. ‘E-Bikes are a laid-back way to maximize the experience, to compensate for differences in the group, to improve the ratio of ascents to descents and to increase the range of tours’, according to the tourist office.

The recommendations range from an initial riding skills course with a trained guide and rental bikes, to recharging the batteries of both bike and bikers at the mountain huts, and on to the ultimate touring adventure. Why not expand the popular Big-5 circuit to a Big 10, and that perhaps in one day! That means 10 cable car rides, 10,000 metres downhill, 140 kilometres and countless unforgettable moments…

E-Bike region Lungau

The Lungau valley is spread out in a star-shape, like the spokes of a wheel and is just waiting to be cycled. In Austria’s sun basin, there are approximately 500 kilometres of varied routes for pleasure cyclists and most can be achieved with an E-Bike. In the highest located E-Bike region (hardly a town here is below 1,000 metres), there are about 150 E-Bikes (mountain and city bikes) available and nearly 100 charging stations widely distributed across Salzburg’s southernmost region.

Soft mobility in Werfenweng

Werfenweng is committed to being a role-model town for soft mobility (SAMO), the eco-friendly way of travel. Soft mobility means a holiday away from your car but still being mobile. Here, the perfect arrival by train is organised for you along with a mobility guarantee on-site with electric vehicles, horse-drawn carriages, ELOIS (the personal, private chauffeur) and environmentally friendly vehicles. Of course, that also includes E-Bikes and E-vehicles in many variations. Seen in this way, Werfenweng has been an E-Bike region already for many years.

E-Biking in the Salzburg Sports World

For that special riding pleasure, on the well-marked cycle paths through the Salzburg Sports World, E-Bikes can be rented in Flachau, Wagrain-Kleinarl, St. Johann, Radstadt, Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, Eben and Filzmoos. In these towns, there are a total of 20 E-Bike tours available which are all located near rental stations and E charging stations. There are guided tours in Filzmoos and Flachau.

The Slow Bike Tour

To expose natural Alpine habitats also for cyclists and E-Bikers, this route was created in the neighbouring regions of SalzburgerLand and Berchtesgaden. It connects the Gaisberg summit (near Salzburg), Högl (near Anger) and Buchberg (near Mattsee), with the starting point at the City of Salzburg. Over 160 kilometres of natural forest reserves, conservation areas and nature parks are waiting to be discovered anew. Through soft mobility, the environment here is not affected. E-Bikers can find perfect infrastructure along the whole route.

With the E-Bike on the Tauern Cycle Path

The Tauern Cycle Path is also worth a trip even for E-Bikers. There is now an almost comprehensive range of charging stations along the cycle path thanks to bike-energy, which fit all current charging systems. Additionally, the Tauern Cycle Path is included in pretty much all bike tour operators program’s and rent out E-Bikes for the duration of the tour.
