Salzkammergut

The Salzkammergut is known to many people as the home of summer retreats and Schnürlregen, rich in salt, lush meadows and forests, blue-green lakes and original traditions. Each of its eight regions is a world of its own.

PLEASURE AND CULINARY DELIGHTS

Eating in the Salzkammergut is a pleasure. Everything that Austrian cuisine has to offer is served here, and perhaps even a little more. Because origin, seasonality and regional products are the main players in the kitchens of the Salzkammergut. Whether in a traditional inn, at a hip food truck or in upscale restaurants – the food in the Salzkammergut is characterised by down-to-earthness, sophistication and freshness. Taste the flavours between mountains and lakes!

CULTURE AND TRADITIONS

Rich in tradition, history, culture and customs, the perfect blend of tradition and modernity has always attracted artists from all over the world. The Salzkammergut has always inspired writers, poets, musicians and painters and provided them with the peace and serenity they needed to create their works. So it is no wonder that many famous artists have found their home here and created some of their most important works. From Franz Lehár to Gustav Mahler and Gustav Klimt to Klaus Maria Brandauer – they have all found inspiration for their artistic work in the stimulating landscape of the Salzkammergut, and have also left their mark here and there.

WINTER IN SALZKAMMERGUT

The Salzkammergut is also worth a visit in winter. Mountains and lakes are transformed into a dream of white. From the bizarre limestone massifs of the Dachstein, Totes Gebirge, Sengsen and Höllengebirge mountains to the idyllic Salzkammergut lakes, the landscape is now dominated by glistening white and gleaming ice. Skiing, cross-country skiing, horse-drawn sleigh rides, ice skating, tobogganing and ski tours – the choice of options is impressive. In addition to the sporting pleasures, guests can also enjoy relaxing oases of well-being, traditional Advent markets and wonderful traditional events.
