Hiking- & Ski-Paradise Schmittenhöhe
The 2,000m high Schmittenhöhe is Zell’s local mountain. Directly from Zell am See, you can reach the most beautiful hiking trails and ski slopes by cable car. The Schmittenhöhe, with its 77km of ski slopes and 6 downhill runs, is popular with both advanced skiers and beginners. Slopes of all levels of difficulty and an illuminated night slope near the centre await winter sports enthusiasts. In summer, the Schmitten is a true hiking paradise for nature lovers and families. The choice of walks is diverse: from the short hike through the “Sisi trail”, which is dedicated to Austria’s former Empress, to the exciting heights of the Sonnkogel and the long-distance “Pinzgauer walk”.
A hiking tip for Kids
On up to Schmidolin’s baptism of fire and to the new “Mystical Forest” trail. On the trail of Schmidolin, the mascot of Schmitten, there is a lot to do for kids: answer tricky questions, tests of reckless courage and other not so easy tasks. The objective is to accompany Schmidolin into adolescence and to assist in learning fire breathing. Whoever successfully completes all stations and documents this in an adventure passes, and will be rewarded in the end.
Water sports on Lake Zell
Lake Zell is perfect for ice and water sports. In summer, the lake invites you to an exceptional bathing holiday with swimming, sailing, kayaking, stand- up paddling or a comfortable trip on a boat trip on Lake Zell. The beaches around Lake Zell open in May and sun worshippers can swim in the cristalclear waters of the lake.
A Highlight for Golfers
From April to November, the championship courses with 36 holes offer ambitious golf beginners as well as professionals enough room for their ball artistry. The mighty Kitzsteinhorn and Zell’s local mountain Schmittenhöhe are the namesakes for the two holes at the Zell am See-Kaprun Golf Club. How fitting, after all, that the 36-hole golf course is nestled in the natural landscape between the two peaks. The varied fairways in the park-like course blend gently into the landscape on the flat terrain and with natural biotopes. In between, the view falls again and again on the snow-covered glacier Kitzsteinhorn in the distance. In addition, the Zell am See-Kaprun Golf Club scores with a particularly long playing season and is open until November.
