The newly revived imperial town of Bad Gastein lies between thundering water and imperial splendour buildings. A place that invigorates and makes both body and soul take off.

The historic construction development meant that the centre of Bad Gastein is now high above the valley. If you take the car park lift up over 11 floors, you overcome a portion of the difference in altitude. Through tight, narrow streets visitors explore the centre of Bad Gastein and marvel at the historic homes and hotels in the style of the houses and hotels of the Belle Epoque. Experience the hospitality of the locals. Enjoy the breathtaking panorama of the Gastein Valley.

Sports paradise Gasteinertal

The direct connection to the Ski amadé guarantees endless skiing enjoyment. The Stubnerkogelbahn takes you up to 2,250m. The Schlossalm-Angertal-Stubnerkogel ski area is located in the immediate vicinity and connects Bad Gastein with Bad Hofgastein. You can also take your turns in the snow-secure Sportgastein. With its altitude of up to 2,650 m, it is the highest winter sports area in Ski amadé.

In summer, the surrounding mountain regions offers numerous possibilities: hiking, mountainbiking, Yoga, forest bathing and active recreation in a picturesque landscape are what make Bad Gastein so special. The 18-hole golf course is ideal for rookies and golf lovers.

Alpine health region

In past centuries, Bad Gastein was known as ,Wildbad Gastein’. Long bathing periods and spa stays of over six weeks were already popular in the Middle Ages. The ,Gastein Heilstollen‘ with its radon therapy is known as a natural accompaniment for rheumatism and other illnesses.

Healing thermal water

The Gastein Valley is characterised by its natural abundance of water. Around 5 million litres of warm thermal water emerge from the springs every day and supply numerous spa and therapy centres as well as the Gastein thermal baths. Enriched with the valuable noble gas radon, the water has a healing effect on illnesses and relieves tension. The Alpentherme in Bad Hofgastein and the Felsentherme in Bad Gastein invite you to relax after an exciting day of skiing or hiking.

A waterfall in the village

There are waterfalls in the town centre, which flow through the city centre and which many painters use as a motive. The water falls about 340 metres downwards over three levels. The atomised water ions are what make the air in Bad Gastein so healing.
