Barrier-free holidays in SalzburgerLand
Not everyone has the ability to get in the car and to go on holiday. But also people with disabilities want to occasionally break out of everyday life and spend holidays away from their own four walls. That is often not so easy, it is important to consider many possible problems and to avoid obstacles.
Barrier-free SalzburgerLand
Some establishments in SalzburgerLand – from small private B&Bs to 5-Star hotels – have aligned their infrastructure specifically for guests with reduced mobility, vision or hearing. They are supported by experts within the framework of the Barrier-Free SalzburgerLand initiative. An appropriate set of criteria was developed in a research project, adapted to the Austrian Standard for barrier-free building construction. In particular the areas of access, reception, staff, rooms, sanitary facilities and corridors are checked for accessibility.
Those who are not affected do not realise the difficulties everyday life can bring even when on holiday. Step-free access in all hotel areas, wide doors, the possibility to bring the guide dog, a legible menu in no-frills font, slip-resistant floors in the sanitary areas, and designated handicapped parking spaces are just a few of the necessary tools to make holidays easier. If the hotel staff are properly trained and can take time to read out necessary information, carry the luggage up to the room and inform guests about wheelchair-accessible hiking trails or bathing opportunities, then this is the icing on the cake.
