Farmhouse Holidays

Rustic farms nestled between ski slopes and blooming Alpine meadows.

If you are looking for an idyllic break in the countryside with genuine heartfelt hospitality, a farmhouse holiday will fulfil your desires whether in summer or winter. The air is full of heavenly smells, homemade cooking and baking from the farmhouse mingled with the scent of freshly mown grass. Aromatherapy for the soul and a chance to escape the hectic pace of everyday life. On a farm holiday, you won’t need to check the time on your watch, here time is regulated by a natural routine.

A farm holiday is a holiday for the whole family! Watch the children’s eyes light up with delight at the sight of ponies, rabbits and sheep. Thoughts of television and computer games will soon be a distant memory. Who needs a mobile phone or computer when there are other opportunities such as taking a walk in the countryside or horse riding. The farmer is up bright and early in the morning and chores include the process of churning fresh cow’s milk to make really tasty farmhouse cheese. She gladly lets you watch over her shoulder as she explains how the cows are taken up to the Alpine pastures in June. Some farmhouses also offer the chance of a holiday directly on the high mountain pasture. On such a holiday, heaven seems that little bit nearer and you can count the grazing cows in the evening to help you fall asleep.

For those who decide on a winter farm holiday, there is plenty to experience after a day in the snow, tobogganing, winter hiking, cross country skiing or Alpine skiing with a warm drink in the farmhouse. The winter experience often starts at the front door of the farm, where many of the slopes, cross country and walking trails start. Just imagine, after a deep sleep you open your eyes to a window framed view of snow covered pastures.

You can enjoy an idyllic holiday while at the same time acquiring a valuable insight into farm life by volunteering to be a farmhand. Romantic filled images may not be as rosy once you have experienced the everyday tasks that are carried out on a working farm. Helping hands are always welcome whether it be for raking hay or assisting the farmer in the barn.

Healthy Farm Holiday

Unwind in an unspoilt natural environment. Breathe in fresh Alpine air and feel your body relax. A countryside holiday is a healthy one. The hustle and bustle of everyday life will be a distant memory when you are on a farm holiday in beautiful SalzburgerLand. Farmhouse cuisine is simply delicious. The farmer’s wife knows just how to tempt guests with her tasty cooking – who can resist the temptation of freshly baked farmhouse bread and butter, along with homemade cured ham and cheese, and farmer’s doughnuts with sauerkraut or delicious roast pork?

The “Farm Holidays Association”

In 1992, the Farm Holiday Association was founded in SalzburgerLand. The organisation currently has 333 members and is used as a platform for rural landlords who are quality checked every four years. A category rating is awarded in a similar way as to hotels, only with the symbol of a flower, rather than a star.
