Grossarltal is a fog-free high valley in the south of Salzburg province, home to the communities of Grossarl (920 m) and Hüttschlag (1,020 m). It is particularly famous for its wealth of huts, earning the valley its appropriate nickname “The Valley of Mountain Huts”.
In fact, some 40 huts greet hikers and bikers passing by along some 400 km of marked hiking paths and 140 km of designated mountain bike trails, treating their guests to a marvelous selection of mouthwatering local specialties.
When it comes to other recreational interests, too, the opportunities leave practically no wish unfulfilled: tennis, swimming, mini golf, climbing, fishing, Nordic walking, wellness and so much more. Every week, the valley also organizes guided hikes, bike tours, National Park excursions and Nordic-walking classes.
Offering inexpensive fares, the hiking taxi carries guests to some of the most popular starting points for their tours. Incidentally, the mountain lifts in the Grossarltal-Dorfgastein ski area also run all summer long, carrying hikers quickly and comfortably up to elevations as high as 1840 meters, where they are greeted by breathtaking panoramas and ridgeline hikes that are absolutely glorious.
