Lofer is only an hour’s drive from Salzburg, the city of Mozart, and although it is the smallest of the four towns in the Saalach Valley, it is also the most populous. The holiday resort is surrounded by an impressive mountain panorama: the Loferer and Reither Steinbergen and the foothills of the Chiemgau Alps. This mountain world invites you to discover – by ski and snowboard in winter and on foot or by bike in summer.
Almenwelt Lofer
The Almenwelt Lofer is a paradise for hikers, bikers and families in summer! With the new 8-seater alpine railway I you can walk from the village centre over 630 metres in altitude to Loderbichl at 1,000 metres – directly to the starting point of the adventure hiking trail “Auf die Alm” with 12 stations along impressive waterfalls. The 6-seater Almbahn II takes you up to lofty heights, directly to the Almenwelt of Lofer at 1,350 metres above sea level – this is where seven circular hiking trails with wonderful panoramic peaks start.
Bikers use the cable cars as an easy way to get up to the top and find connections to bike routes to Waidring/Steinplatte, the Winklmoosalm and Unken/Heutal.
There is a new, rewarding hiking destination at Schönbühel at 1,600 metres above sea level: the 1,700 m2 Red Marble Lake is easily accessible via Märchenwaldrundweg No. 4.
Family friendly ski area
Winter sports enthusiasts will find 10 cable cars and lifts as well as 46 km of ski runs on the Almenwelt Lofer. In recent years, the ski resort has received top marks in the family-friendliness category in ski area tests. For the kids there is a 140-metre long, covered “magic carpet” (conveyor belt) and the “Almenwelt circular hiking trail”. This is also the location of the high-altitude cross-country trail, which runs for four kilometres through the middle of the enchanting Almenwelt area. For freeriders and boarders, the “Lofi FUNLINE” provides entertaining adventure rides along the Family Express lift.
