FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2025
WE ARE READY! 34 years after the legendary sun-drenched 1991 World Ski Championships, we are gearing up to welcome the world’s finest skiers for a spectacular skiing festival.
Double world champion Stephan Eberharter, Petra Kronberger, Ulli Maier and Rudi Nierlich dazzled with their golds in Downhill, Super-G and Giant Slalom. Now, 34 years after the ‘Sunshine Championships’ of 1991, Saalbach in SalzburgerLand is preparing to host the World Championships for the second time. While we can’t yet predict if the 2025 Championships will shimmer in the sunshine like in 1991, one thing is certain: it will be an extraordinary ski festival, broadcast from SalzburgerLand to the world. “We’ve fought for this for seven and a half years. I’m over the moon. Now, the real work begins. In 2025, we’ll show the world how to celebrate a ski festival,” says Bartholomäus “Bartl” Gensbichler, leader of the Austrian World Championships bid and president of the Salzburg Ski Association.
“WE ARE READY” for the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2025. Saalbach has a rich, over 100-year-long history of hosting unique winter sports events. We’re proud of this magnificent history and the remarkable development that has made Saalbach one of the largest and most innovative ski tourism destinations in the Alps. Following the success of the 1991 World Championships, we’re set to make headlines once again, 34 years later.
ONE MOUNTAIN, ALL COMPETITIONS
The world championships of ease — for both the ski stars and all skiing enthusiasts. All races will take place on the Zwölferkogel mountain in Hinterglemm, with a single finish area and all key locations such as the medal plaza within walking distance. Beyond hosting the 1991 World Ski Championships, Saalbach has successfully organised over 30 World Cup races, even stepping in at short notice for other venues. This has repeatedly proven the organisers’ expertise in hosting a true “ski festival”. In 2025, they aim to showcase this prowess to the world, demonstrating that SalzburgerLand is the quintessential place to celebrate skiing at its finest.
The symbolic handover of the FIS flag in Courchevel Méribel, France, marked the starting point for the 48th FIS AlpineWorld Ski Championships Saalbach 2025.
This event is set to be a truly exceptional ski festival. With around 20,000 guest beds in Saalbach-Hinterglemm and 50,000 in the surrounding region, ski fans from across the globe will have the opportunity to travel to SalzburgerLand and experience the excitement of witnessing their skiing heroes live.
