St. Georgen is a little Paradise for the those seeking relaxation. Close to the Upper-Austrian border but sill not far from the City of Salzburg, this community is embedded in the soft hilly landscape of the Alpine foothills. Regardless of what season you come here to relax, the sporting facilities are numerous.
A Church as European Protection Zone
In the area around St. Georgen there are no less than ten chapels, numerous wayside shrines, weather crosses and wonderful churches. Among these is the decanal church of St. Georg which boasts something special, alongside its amazing frescoes. In the ceiling’s wooden beams a large colony of bats nests all year round to bring their babies into the world. This is why the church has been classified as a European Protection Zone. All of these chapels and churches are well worth a visit, especially in summer on foot or on a bike. A hike in the snow-covered winter landscape is also very delightful.
In the warm seasons, take a trip to one of the many large or small lakes in the Salzburger Lake District. Many other excursions can also be reached from St. Georgen in a short time, such as the Weidmoos Nature Reserve with its moors, ponds and biotopes. Or visit the Peat-Glass-Brick Museum in Bürmoos.
