St. Gilgen is also known as the Mozart Village! Here, sport, culture and nature lie so wonderfully next to each other. The picturesque town of St. Gilgen is only 25 kilometres from Salzburg’s Old Town. This idyllic town is very closely connected to the prodigy Mozart and his family. After all, his grandfather was born here and his sister “Nannerl” made her home here. Selected events still recall the Mozart family today.
Holidays at their finest
The deep blue waters of Lake Wolfgang invite for swimming, marvelling and enjoyment. Many sports facilities in and around the lake help make the summers in St. Gilgen so extraordinary. Head up high to the surrounding mountain peaks. It’s especially easy with the Zwölferhorn cable car.
The Mozart village of St. Gilgen
The roots of the world-famous composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart can be traced as far as St. Gilgen. Mozart’s mother was born in 1720 in the former district court, which was built by Mozart’s grandfather. Today a museum is housed in the Mozart House, where exhibitions, weddings and events take place.
Autumn pleasure at Lake Wolfgang
When the foliage in the forests around Lake Wolfgang begins to discolour, the reliable weather of “Autumn Enjoyment at Lake Wolgangsee” invites you to go to lofty heights and hike through the holiday region.
Tips for winter
In the run-up to Christmas, St. Gilgen is engulfed in a special magic. The slopes of the Zwölferhorn, with its natural snow slopes, invite you for genuine skiing pleasure on one of the most beautiful peaks in the Salzkammergut. In the valley, the “Wolfgangsee Advent” is enticing – how about a cup of warming punch or tea, directly in the heart of St. Gilgen?
